my baby genius.

(this is yesterday's blog, but because my internet stopped working last night i couldn't post it)

"jude, where is the eye?"

yep, that's right. jude has make his big break into understanding language. i even got him to point out the drum and guitar on another one of his toys before he got tired of the game. i was undeniably impressed. it's probably totally normal for almost-nine month olds to begin understanding and pointing, but this is MY almost-nine month old. now i can't wait for the Your Baby Can Read kit that i ordered. and i need to get the ball rolling on the baby sign language as well.

jude astounds me more and more everyday. he is making a few word-like sounds, and at times i wonder if he's trying to repeat certain words or phrases i say. he's so aware of his surroundings now, too. today i hid the remote control under a blanket and he pulled the blanket off to get it. three different times! this is a new development. not that i've really tried to see if he could do it before, but usually i would just hide my phone, the remote, whatever and he would get distracted by something else. his determination is unbelievable these days. he is determined to stand, he is determined to move from one place to another while standing, he is determined to move past crawling. i can see the concentration in his eyes when something he wants is out of reach. today i watched him learn to fall on his butt instead of his head. he's getting better at sitting instead of toppling over backward when he stands. the daredevil in his still prefers to lunge at the floor though, so i have to keep a close eye on him. even when he's sleeping. :)

clearly, you can see what jude thinks about these caveman means of keeping him out of the cabinets...

What a sweet sleeping boy! And a smart one too! Baby proofing looks like such a chore. I dread those days, but not nearly as much as I look forward to that curiosity and exploration.
