today, we (zachary, jude, & myself) took a three hour nap. THREE HOURS! it's so refreshing even to talk about it. napping is not something i get to do very often these days, not since jude decided to forgo his long naps and instead take 2-3 shorter ones during the day. and as he's been going to bed around 8pm and waking up bright-eyed and bushy-tailed at 7-8am, i have felt somewhat like a zombie. so needless to say, the nap was goooood. i do feel like i slept away my last day of spring break, but seriously... it could have been worse.
today, jude got his first happy meal toy.
hopefully he won't be getting many of these though. right now, i'm doing the best i can to prepare his food by hand, using all organics. ideally, i'd like to still be doing this when he is happy meal age. i'm sure i might not be as gung-ho about the all-organic, but i really just don't want him growing up to gorge himself on sugar and fat-america foods. his healthy diet is definitely one of those things that i am insistent upon maintaining. i do realize, however, that for this to work, zachary and i will have to start eating healthier. with his work schedule and my school schedule, this is difficult. but if everything works out the way we hope and we move back to lexington this year, it will be much easier. not to mention we will save a ton of money by not eating out all the time. i'm actually really excited to start cooking!
both my dad and my mom's parents grow gardens, so i can't wait to see what yummy, homegrown goodies we will be getting this summer/fall. plus there is a local farm (terrapin) that grows organically, but lexington will provide us with a wider variety of choices when it comes to grocery shopping as well as offer a lovely farmer's market. living in harrodsburg, there is really only walmart or kroger to shop at. speaking of walmart, that's exactly where we went this morning. i am not too keen on taking jude there much, but he has started to really enjoy himself. he sat in his stroller, kicking his little feet and babbling away.
of course he didn't leave empty handed, either. he came home with a sesame street remote control and a wagon with buckets and shovels for the beach this summer. he liked the wagon. :)
and we can't wait for the beach! we'll be spending a week in destin, fl sometime in june. i am stoked to see how he likes the ocean and the sand. i'm not a huge beach fan, really (i burn easily, lol) but kids really make any experience better. they bring joy to the most mundane activities, i swear.
for awhile, my nanny and mom tried to get me interested in piano. i tinkered around when i was little, but now that i've got jude and he's showing such an interest, i am almost inspired to take lessons myself. he and his dad sit around and play most every night that zach is home with him before bedtime. when he was really tiny, he would watch, then touch, and now he is flat-out banging those keys! here's to my mini-mozart!
and here's to a new brain-food. cauliflower. it's packed with vitamins C & K, potassium and even folate. it is even scientifically proven to reduce risk of cancer!
cauliflower and green beans. looks gross, tastes good. i promise!
jude promises, too!
jude and daddy playing before bathtime. i love these boys.
and finally, jude and his hats. my very favorite thing. :):):)
